jamie r. allen
Aloha! I am heading into my second year living in Hawaii. I spend my days painting in my studio in Kailua with the occasional break to go for a walk, run, or sit on the lanai with my grandmother. I am extremely grateful for all the wonderful things that have been happening in Hawaii. I was recently featured in an emerging artists spotlight for the Honolulu Magazine issue for May 2012. I also have signed with another gallery on Kauai, Haleal’a Gallery. My solo exhibit opened with great success and love at the Spalding House Cafe at the Contemporary Art Museum. To balance my days, I currently teach as an adjunct professor at Hawaii Pacific University. The college, the galleries, the generous friends I have made, all have made Hawaii feel even more like home. Mahalo.

The title of the exhibit, "Breath", references her interest in the achievement of balance within her life as well as her paintings. Allen regularly practices yoga and finds the connection between concentrating on your breath and the expression on the mat can also be found in the act of painting and drawing. The most chaotic environment can find balance and be centered which can be seen within the crowded areas in her paintings and the space found in the background and hidden areas.
